SERVER RULES
Welcome to the official Texas 420 server rules. This page contains the full, detailed rules for our noob-friendly Rust environment. Reading them thoroughly helps keep our community chill, fair, and competitive for everyone involved. Please remember that admins have final say on rules.
Texas 420 Rust Server Rules
Welcome to Texas 420, a noob-friendly, limited-PvP Rust server designed to give players a relaxed place to learn, build, explore, raid, and enjoy Rust without constant Kill on Sight.
Our rules are designed to keep gameplay fair and understandable while still allowing players to experience the PvP and raiding aspects of Rust.
Before You Play
Do not intentionally look for loopholes in the rules.
If you are unsure whether something is allowed, open a Discord support ticket and ask an admin before doing it. Something is not automatically allowed simply because it is not specifically mentioned.
Attempting to intentionally exploit a loophole may result in disciplinary action.
Texas 420 admins have final say on rule interpretations and enforcement.
1. PvP & Kill on Sight
Texas 420 is a Limited PvP / No KOS server.
Unless another server rule specifically allows PvP, players may only attack other players inside an approved PvP zone.
Monument PvP Zones
The following monuments are designated PvP areas:
-
Airfield
-
Abandoned Military Base
-
Arctic Research Base
-
Cargo Ship
-
Dome
-
Ferry Terminal
-
Giant Excavator Pit
-
Harbors
-
Launch Site
-
Military Tunnels
-
Nuclear Missile Silo
-
Oil Rigs
-
Power Plant
-
Radtown
-
Satellite
-
Sewer Branch
-
Train Yard
-
Water Treatment
-
Underwater Labs
Monument Boundaries
The entire No Build Zone surrounding a listed monument is considered part of the monument's PvP zone.
Anything located inside that No Build Zone is also considered PvP.
For example, if a road, Gas Station, player structure, or other location falls inside the No Build Zone of a listed monument, that location is also inside the PvP zone.
2. Temporary Event PvP Zones
Certain events temporarily create PvP areas.
These include:
-
Airdrops
-
Attack Helicopter crash sites
-
Locked Crates
-
Satellite crash sites
-
Raids
Temporary events create a 9-grid PvP area consisting of the grid containing the event and all eight grids touching it.
When Event PvP Ends
After event loot has been collected, PvP may continue against the player or players carrying that loot.
For each player carrying event loot, their participation in the event PvP ends when they either:
-
Leave the 9-grid PvP area, or
-
Successfully enter their own home base
Whichever happens first.
If a player's home base is located within the 9-grid PvP area, that player becomes safe once they successfully enter their own home.
Because this rule applies individually, different players carrying loot from the same event may become safe at different times.
Attack Helicopter
Attack Helicopter crash sites also create a 9-grid PvP area.
After the Helicopter crate is looted, the player or players carrying the loot remain involved in event PvP until they either leave the 9-grid area or enter their own home base, whichever occurs first.
3. Deep Sea & Open-Water PvP
Deep Sea and Open Water are treated separately.
Deep Sea
Deep Sea is always PvP.
Deep Sea may contain numbered map grids. A numbered grid does not make Deep Sea safe.
Open Water
Any open-water grid square without a grid number or label is considered PvP.
Numbered open-water grids are not automatically PvP unless another server rule or PvP zone applies.
Designated Safe Zones remain safe.
4. Raiding
Raiding is allowed on Texas 420, but all raids must follow the rules below.
First 24 Hours of Wipe
Players may not raid during the first 24 hours after wipe.
Exceptions
The 24-hour raid restriction does not apply to:
-
Legacy Shacks
-
The Apartments monument
These locations may be raided during the first 24 hours.
5. Solo & Team Raid Rules
A player's solo or team status determines what type of base they are permitted to raid.
Solo Players
Solo players normally use Key Locks.
A solo player may choose to use Code Locks, but doing so means that player will be considered a team for raid purposes.
A solo player using Key Locks may only raid bases using Key Locks.
Teams
Teams must use Code Locks.
Teams may only raid bases using Code Locks.
Teams may never use Key Locks.
Using Key Locks as a team is a server rule violation and may result in disciplinary action, including a possible ban.
6. Changing Between Solo & Team
Players may change between solo and team status during a wipe, but they must receive admin approval before making the change.
This includes situations such as:
-
A solo player joining a team
-
A team member becoming solo
-
All but one player leaving a team
-
Changing lock types because of a team-status change
Open a Discord ticket and receive approval before changing your team status or lock type.
7. Starting a Raid
Players do not have to wait for the first explosive to physically hit the base before defending themselves.
KOS is permitted immediately before a raid begins when there is clear and immediate intent to begin destroying the base.
For example, a player approaching a base with rockets, C4, or satchels and actively preparing to use them may be treated as beginning a raid.
Simply standing near a base while carrying explosives does not automatically make the situation a raid.
There must be clear intent for the raid to immediately begin.
8. Raid PvP Zone
A raid creates a 9-grid PvP zone.
The PvP area consists of:
-
The grid containing the base being raided
-
All eight grids touching that grid
Players legally participating in the raid or counter-raid may engage in PvP inside this area.
9. Leaving a Raid With Loot
A raider is not automatically safe when leaving the 9-grid raid area.
The owner or members of the base that was raided may pursue and attack the raider until the raider successfully enters their own base.
Once the raider enters their base, the pursuit ends.
Only the owner or owners of the raided base may continue the fight outside the 9-grid raid area.
Counter-raiders and unrelated players may not continue PvP outside the raid zone.
10. Counter-Raiding
Any player may attempt to counter a raid.
However, the normal solo/team raid restrictions still apply if the counter-raider wants to continue raiding the base.
For example:
-
A team may counter a solo raid but may not continue raiding the Key Lock base.
-
A solo player may counter a team raid but may not continue raiding the Code Lock base.
If a counter-raider legally takes over and continues the raid, that player or team becomes the active raider and the applicable raiding rules apply.
11. No Tag Teaming Raids
Players may not use other players or allied groups to bypass raid or team limits.
Players may not:
-
Tag team raids
-
Rotate multiple teams into the same raid
-
Allow allies to participate in the raid
-
Invite allies to watch the raid as an audience
Only the solo player or team conducting the raid should participate as the raider.
12. Raid Cleanup
After completing a raid, the raider must properly clean up the raided base.
Raiders must:
-
Replace the Tool Cupboard if necessary.
-
Place at least 24 hours of upkeep inside the TC.
-
Leave any newly placed TC unlocked.
-
Unlock any locks placed during the raid.
-
Return unwanted loot to storage containers instead of throwing it on the ground to despawn.
-
Remove belongings that should not remain in the raided base.
13. Prohibited Raid Actions
The following actions are prohibited.
Taking Over a Base
Players may not take ownership of another player's base after raiding it.
TC Griefing
Players may not intentionally prevent the owner from recovering or using their base.
Do not:
-
Lock the replacement TC
-
Wall off the TC
-
Place an outside TC and wall it off to prevent recovery
Foundation Wiping
Foundation wiping is prohibited.
Destroying more than 50% of the total base structure is considered foundation wiping.
Bag Griefing
Do not:
-
Wall off another player's sleeping bags
-
Leave your own sleeping bag or bed inside a raided base
Raid Bases
Raid bases are allowed.
After the raid and transfer of loot are complete, remove upkeep from the raid base TC and allow the structure to decay.
14. Legacy Shacks & Player-Made Boats
Legacy Shacks may be raided by any player and are not protected by the first 24-hour raid restriction.
Player-made boats are considered bases and follow the normal Solo/Team lock rules.
15. Door Camping
Door camping is not allowed.
Players may not camp outside another player's base and claim to be raiding when no legitimate raid is occurring.
Because circumstances vary, admins will determine whether behavior qualifies as door camping.
16. Traps & Automated Defenses
Traps and automated defenses are allowed at your own base.
However, their effective firing area must remain inside the player's owned or base area.
Traps may not fire into public areas outside the player's property.
This includes Auto Turrets set to Peacekeeper Mode.
Trap Bases
Trap bases are not allowed.
Players may not place traps outside their own property for the purpose of killing passing players.
17. SAM Sites
SAM Sites may only be placed at your own base or compound.
Players operating a SAM Site must:
-
Keep the SAM within their base or compound
-
Broadcast the SAM Site's location using a vending machine
-
Clearly identify the marker as a SAM Site or No Fly Zone
-
Keep the warning vending machine empty so its marker appears red
-
Position the warning vending machine separately from other vending machines
-
Keep the warning visible whenever the SAM Site is operational
SAM Sites may not:
-
Be placed in the Noob Center Area
-
Fire into or interfere with players flying through the Noob Center Area
-
Be placed within firing range of Bandit Camp
18. General Conduct
Slurs
Slurs of any kind are prohibited.
This includes:
-
Voice chat
-
Global chat
-
Team chat
-
Signs
-
Vending machines
-
Player names
-
Base designs
-
Other forms of communication
Toxic Behavior
Players are expected to treat other members of the community with reasonable respect.
Toxic behavior may include:
-
Harassment
-
Repeated personal attacks
-
Targeted insults
-
Threatening or intimidating behavior
-
Repeatedly provoking another player
-
Deliberately creating a hostile environment
-
Other conduct admins determine is excessively disruptive
This list is not exhaustive.
Depending on the situation, toxic behavior may result in a warning, mute, kick, or ban.
19. Monument Access
Players may not wall off monuments or prevent other players from accessing them.
Texas 420 is intended to provide players with the opportunity to learn and experience Rust content, so monuments must remain accessible to the community.
20. Base Ownership & Giving Away Bases
Players may not take over or give away bases.
If you leave the server before wipe, you may:
-
Give away your loot
-
Remove valuables
-
Allow the base to naturally decay
You may not transfer ownership of the actual base.
21. Allies
Players who regularly share resources, help each other, or cooperate as allied groups may be considered allies.
Allied bases must have at least one complete map grid square between them in every direction.
Allies may not be used to bypass team limits or raid rules.
22. Sleeping & Logged-Off Players
Players sleeping or logged off outside of a secured player-owned base may be killed and looted by anyone.
This may include players sleeping on roads, beaches, monuments, forests, abandoned structures, or other unsecured areas.
23. Drones
Player-controlled drones may be shot down by any player for any reason.
This applies even in areas where normal player PvP is not permitted.
Destroying a drone does not give the drone owner permission to attack the person who shot it down.
Normal PvP rules still apply.
24. Team Rules
Teams may contain a maximum of four players.
Teams must use Code Locks.
Only players who actually live in the base may:
-
Be authorized on the Tool Cupboard
-
Have permanent access to base locks
-
Have sleeping bags or beds inside the base
Players who do not live in the base may not have permanent TC authorization, lock access, sleeping bags, or beds there.
25. Temporary Monument Teams
Up to four players may temporarily team together to run monuments.
Players doing so should create an in-game team.
Temporary monument teaming does not change:
-
Base ownership
-
Lock requirements
-
Solo/Team raid classification
unless the players begin living together or otherwise form a permanent team with admin approval.
26. Stealing
Stealing is allowed on Texas 420.
An item is considered stolen when it belongs to another player and is taken without permission.
Naturally spawned loot does not count as stealing.
Consequences of Stealing
If a player steals another player's property, the owner may pursue and kill the thief until the thief successfully enters their own base.
The thief may not defend themselves in any way during the pursuit.
Once the thief enters their own base:
-
The stealing pursuit ends
-
The thief becomes safe from further PvP under the stealing rule
Normal PvP rules then apply again.
27. Entering Another Player's Base or Compound
If a player enters another player's base or compound without permission, the owner may kill that player immediately.
The owner is not required to give a warning first.
The intruding player does not have to steal anything for this rule to apply.
Entering the property without permission is enough for the owner to defend it.
28. Noob Center & Noob Center Area
Two different terms are used when discussing Noob Center.
Noob Center
The Noob Center is the admin-built structure and location.
Noob Center Area
The Noob Center Area is the surrounding marked area.
The Noob Center Area may be as large as a 3×3 / nine-grid area and will be clearly marked on the map.
29. Noob Center Protection
The map grid containing Noob Center is not automatically protected from player raids.
Players may build bases and shops inside the same grid as Noob Center.
Player-owned buildings in this grid may be raided normally as long as all other raid rules are followed.
Only admin-owned buildings and structures are protected from raiding.
Players may not raid, damage, destroy, take over, or interfere with admin-owned Noob Center structures.
30. Building in the Noob Center Area
Players may build inside the designated Noob Center Area.
However, bases inside the Noob Center Area must operate as shops.
A base in the Noob Center Area must:
-
Have an active vending machine
-
Have items actively available for sale
-
Make the vending machine accessible from ground level
-
Keep shop access outside high external walls
Players may live inside their shop or base.
31. High External Walls in Noob Center
Players may not completely surround their Noob Center Area base with high external walls.
No more than 50% of the base perimeter may be protected by high external walls.
This keeps shops accessible and prevents the Noob Center Area from becoming completely enclosed compounds.
32. Community Vending Machines
Admin-provided Community Vending Machines are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Only one Community Vending Machine per solo player or team is allowed.
Claiming a Community Vending Machine
To claim an available vending machine:
-
Find an available Community Vending Machine.
-
Purchase the claim note from that vending machine using 1 Wood or 1 Scrap, depending on its listed price.
-
The note will provide the door code needed to access the back of the vending machine.
-
Set up and maintain your shop.
-
Clearly include your player or team name in the vending machine title.
Maintaining Your Vending Machine
Community Vending Machines are intended for active player shops.
The vending machine must:
-
Contain only items that are actually for sale
-
Remain stocked with items available for purchase
If the vending machine is empty or has no items available for purchase for 48 consecutive hours, admins may reclaim the vending machine and make it available to another player or team.
Community Vending Machines may not be used as personal storage.
